Typed the first script of dialogue.
THE DEVELOPMENT
Before it became a novel,
it was a comic.
More than thirty years ago, BROKEN GODS began as a very different project. The story was imagined in panels and pages, characters were drawn by hand, and the world existed first as sketches long before it became the novel it is today.
This archive preserves that earlier vision. The drawings, character concepts, fragments, and experiments belong to the history of the story, even where the finished book eventually took a different path.
THE ORIGINAL VISION
Thirty-four years of a story becoming itself.
The artwork for this section begins with the pages created in 2006. Some were drawn as finished comic-book pages, while others remained as pencil studies and early character work. Together, they show the story taking shape long before it became a novel.
THE JOURNEY

Wrote the first two chapters of the novel.
Tried the graphic novel again, ultimately realizing the story needed to be a novel.
Began writing the novel in earnest.
Hired a development editor.
Began revisions and rewrites.
Finished revisions.
Sent copies to beta readers.
Incorporated beta comments and finished copy and line edits.
Began querying agents.
THE 1992 ARCHIVE
Before the comic, there was a script.
These surviving pages are samples from the original 1992 dialogue script, the earliest version of the story preserved in the archive.
THE 2003 ARCHIVE
The dialogue became a comic.
By 2003, the original dialogue had been refined into a comic script, with page layouts, panel descriptions, narration, character introductions, and the opening sequence beginning to take shape.
THE 2006 ARCHIVE
Where BROKEN GODS began.
These pages are part of the original graphic-novel development from 2006, preserved as they were created.
THE LATER ATTEMPT
The story came back.
Around 2024, the graphic-novel idea came back to life. These later pages explored the story again with new artwork and a more developed vision. This attempt ultimately led to a realization: the story needed to become a novel.
